Yamaha has been a force in home audio for over two decades, but they just unveiled what they’re calling their “most advanced” soundbar yet. The new True X Surround 90A isn’t just a soundbar; it’s a complete surround sound package with a wireless subwoofer and two wireless surround speakers. The main unit is an absolute beast, featuring an insane 19 drivers with 12 up-firing drivers to deliver a truly immersive Dolby Atmos experience that few others can match. For context, Sonos’ flagship soundbar only has two up-firing drivers.
The surrounds are the real surprise here. They have built-in rechargeable batteries, so they can be placed anywhere without a cord, but they’re also multi-purpose. You can switch them to “solo” mode and use each one as an individual portable Bluetooth speaker. That means your surround sound system can double as a portable music solution for around the house or a party outside.
The True X Surround 90A is the world’s first soundbar to support Auro-3D, a technology beloved by audiophiles for its ability to create a rich, 3D sound from standard stereo content. The complete system is priced at $3,500 and will be available starting in September 2025.
