After playing it safe with last-mile commuters and hybrid cars, Honda is finally getting serious about EVs. The “Big Red” has officially entered the electric motorcycle fray with the WN7, a production bike that delivers on the promises of its “EV Fun” concept. And it looks good, too. The WN7 sports a sleek, minimalist design with a single-sided swingarm that gives it a clean, futuristic look.
The name WN7 is an acronym for Honda’s ‘Be the Wind’ development concept, where ‘W’ is for Wind, ‘N’ is for Naked, and ‘7’ is its power class. That last part is important: Honda claims the WN7 will have the output of a 600cc gas-powered bike, with the torque of a literbike. This streetfighter is not here to play games.
While a full spec sheet is still under wraps until its November reveal, we do know a few key details. The WN7 has a fixed lithium-ion battery and an estimated range of over 83 miles, with a rapid charge function that can go from 20% to 80% in just 30 minutes. That’s a serious leg up on the competition and a huge selling point for anyone looking to get back on the road fast. The WN7 is set to launch in Europe with a reported price of around $17,800, which also undercuts many of its competitors. Here’s hoping it makes its way stateside soon.
